The Half Marathon

Greetings!

What an exhilarating experience! I ran the half marathon the day before my birthday in honor of the first half marathon I ran twenty years ago.

As you recall from the October blog, I ran my first half marathon twenty years ago in Lake Tahoe. While I toyed with the idea of running that specific race again, I decided that it would never be the same nor could I live up to that finish time. I researched half races in the state of Florida but there were none on a Friday, most races are scheduled on the weekend for more participation.

So, I decided to simply run the race in my neighborhood. I would need to make four rounds around the lake to achieve the length of 13.1 miles. I trained July, August, and September and up to two days before the race. I and my feet were ready!

I took off at 5:30am and ran nice and smooth, did not panic, and felt great throughout the race. It took me three hours and 36 minutes---not a fast rabbit but I made it and that is what counted. And I finished first! The Lord was with me all the while, encouraging me to continue running.

As I rounded the last corner, I could see several folks standing at the finish line and then I saw more friends and neighbors with signs cheering me on! My husband Tim and our dog Grey Lady were there, and it was impressive seeing everyone. I was very appreciative of them taking time to come out and be with me.

Saturday, I enjoyed my birthday and dinner at Ruth Chris Steak House. Delicious is an understatement!

Monday morning, I was out early running as usual with Grey Lady.

Enjoy the day and talk next month,
